Two Roots Alpacas and Fiber Mill

Fiber Mill Price List

The pricing model for our services is based on the weight of the fiber at three different stages during the process.

incoming Is the weight of the fiber when it is received at the mill. This weight should be very close to the weight specified by the customer when the fiber group or lot was created.
picked To process the fiber, the first steps are to clean the fiber via tumbling, washing and drying. If there is going to be any additional processing beyond the wash then the fiber is picked and conditioned. The weight of the fiber at this point is called the "picked" weight.
final There are a limited number of services offered that are based on the final weight of the product produced by us. As the name implies this it the weight of the final product.

The prices listed below are our base prices. There may be an up charge for some breeds or extra fine fleeces which require special handling in the mill.

Washing

Our base wash service includes tumbling, 4-6 hour soak, 2 wash cycles, and final rinse/spin. If needed we will contact you about adding an additional wash cycles. Please note, we DO NOT accept pre-washed fiber.

  • Combining multiple fleeces together to produce a blended color yarn.
  • The use of multiple fleeces to produce a multi-colored core spun rug yarn.

Examples of blending would be the addition of silk, nylon, wool or some other fiber to your fleeces. If blending materials are supplied by Two Roots Fiber Mill there will be an additional cost added to cover the cost of materials.

Breed Up Charges

The following table lists the breed of animals that can be processed by the mill.  In all cases, the staple length of the fiber must be no longer than 6-7 inches for us to be able to spin the fiber into yarn.  This is a physical limit of our spinning equipment.  Staple lengths longer than 6 inches processing options are:

  • Wash and Pick
  • Roving
  • Rug Yarn
  • Lopi Style Yarn

Any other breeds must be approved by the mill and may be subject to an additional charge.
